Code of Conduct

This is a social network - built for ourselves, and for our Communities.

We build

To support each other.

To slow things down.

To take back control.

To make a living doing things that matter.

To spend less time scrolling - and more time experiencing life.

And above all,

To do cool stuff with people we trust.

What We Promise You.

1. Humans First.

We cut distractions and notifications.

We support real connections with real people.

We want to spend as little time as possible scrolling - and as much time as possible living our lives.

We have one core metric -

Total screentime, across all platforms, apps, and devices - decreasing.

And that includes this one.

2. Privacy First.

Beyond the legal requirements -

We believe each person's data belongs to them.

We allow you to have full control over who sees what.

And we will never run ads or sell our data.

3. Transparency First.

We will be transparent about what we are doing with every penny we raise, including any money we are paying ourselves.

We will be transparent about who we are working with.

We will be transparent about our values and our vision.

What We Ask Of You.

1. Live. Livelihood, and the Pursuit of Meaning - for everyone.

This is our Community's vision,

And we ask you to respect it.

What that means is affirming every human's right to

Life (living a safe and healthy life),

Livelihood (being provided for), and

The Pursuit of Meaning (finding fulfilment, as long as it doesn't harm others)

Practically speaking,

That means we do not tolerate saying that people - especially groups of people - should be denied access to one or more of these -

e.g., "All [people of X group] should starve/be shot/be locked-up" or "I'm so glad that so many [people of X group] died in [conflict]".

We don't ask that you like everyone here -

But we do ask for a level of decency, respect, and self-determination,

That's where we draw the line.

2. Take Care Of Yourself (And Your Data).

We've done our best to make our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy as readable and minimalist as possible.

Beyond that, when posting anything to The Network -

Think of it like putting up a flyer in a local bar.

You can be reasonably sure that only the people who go to this bar will see it -

But there is always a chance that someone will take a picture of the flyer and send it around to everyone you know.

So, although we do our best to handle your data with care,

There is always a small risk of something being shared more widely -

Whether it's because another user screenshots your information, or because we get hacked.

So please use this platform mindfully.

If you want to discuss something highly sensitive, there are plenty of messaging applications that use end-to-end encryption (e.g., Signal) -

And we encourage you to use them.

In other words -

A local bar, no matter how cozy, is not a place to talk loudly about your deepest secrets.

3. Real-life, Authentic Connections.

This is a platform that helps support the connections in the real world.

To keep things feeling authentic, we all need to do our part -

Only post things you believe will help strengthen your connections with others.
